Ingredients
5 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
1 medium red pepper, stemmed, seeded and finely chopped
4 medium garlic cloves, minced
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon of turmeric
2 tablespoons tomato sauce,
1 1/2 cups cooked or canned black beans, drained
1 cup cooked basmati rice
2 cups fresh breadcrumbs
Hot sauce, like Tabasco
1 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Elaboration
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, red pepper and garlic.
Cook, stirring frequently, until soft and the onions are transparent, about 8 minutes. Add cumin, turmeric, and tomato sauce. Cook for 1 minute.
In the bowl of a food processor or with a blender, combine the above mixture with beans and rice. Until they are well combined. Move to a large bowl. Add the breadcrumbs and mix well. Season with salt, pepper and hot sauce.
Heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat in a large nonstick skillet. Go taking portions of the mixture forming a ball and then we give it a crushed hamburger shape
Cook until golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes per side.
Serve the burgers with a salad and sesame bread, white muffin or whatever you want.
